Travellers are understandably wary about committing to future travel right now, but at this price you may feel comfortable making plans – especially for 2021 bookings.
FlyDubai’s excellent business class fares to Turkey
When it comes to airlines based in the UAE, Emirates usually takes all the glory. Less well known is FlyDubai – another government-owned airline that exclusively flies Boeing 737 aircraft.
Right now, FlyDubai is offering return business class fares between Colombo, Sri Lanka and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport for just USD 740.
What’s the catch?
At that price there’s bound to be a catch, right? Well, there are a couple, actually.
First up, there are long connections in Dubai of around 11-14 hours. If you are happy to break up your journey, this fare may work for you. Just bear in mind that your journey will take around 24 hours each way.
Secondly, FlyDubai doesn’t have any aircraft with flat-bed seats at present (since the grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft), so you are looking at US-style leather recliner seats up front (though they do have generous recline and a leg rest).
The 737 business cabins do feature 12 inch entertainment screens, and you’ll have access to the FlyDubai business lounge at Dubai Terminal 2.
If, by some miracle, FlyDubai’s 737 MAX planes make a return, you might even get lucky and find a flat-bed seat installed on one of your flights (the Colombo route was originally earmarked to receive the 737 MAX).
When can I travel?
This fare is available now, for booking up until the end of March. We had no problems finding that price for travel in February, which should give you more peace of mind if you are concerned about coronavirus disrupting travel in 2020.
With its long connections and standard recliner seats in business class, this fare isn’t perfect. If, however, you just want to get from Sri Lanka to Europe in comfort and at a good price, the price is unbeatable.
