Today’s featured fare from SriLankan Airlines allows you to earn oneworld points while flying the impressive-looking new business class product from Gulf Air (which isn’t a oneworld member).

SriLankan Airlines' cheap business class fares from India to Casablanca

On Saturday we wrote about a good business fare SriLankan Airlines was offering from India to London and today we have another great deal from SriLankan that starts from Chennai.

This deal, to Casablanca in Morocco, is going to especially excite you if you can’t wait to do a lot of flying - the six legs in this journey make it mouth watering for all of you who are eager to get your frequent flyer programs ticking.

This return fare from Chennai is sold by SriLankan Airlines, which provides most (but not all) of the flights in the itinerary.

SriLankan operates the first segment, from Chennai to Colombo, and the second leg from Colombo to Bahrain, with narrow body Airbus A320/ A321s featuring recliner seats in business class. There's nothing to get too excited about there, though you'll still have a comfortable ride with good food and service up front.

The best part of this deal is that the longest legs of this journey, between Bahrain and Casablanca, are operated by Gulf Air’s Boeing 787, which features an impressive-looking hard product in their "Falcon Gold" business class with a total of 26 seats.

Because SriLankan Airlines and Gulf Air have a codeshare partnership, you'll still earn oneworld rewards (if you're a member of SriLankan's Fly Smiles, for example) on the Gulf Air-operated legs.

As part of their codeshare agreement, SriLankan Airlines places its ‘UL’ code on Gulf Air’s flights from Bahrain to Colombo, as well as to the Greek capital Athens, to Larnaca in Cyprus and to Casablanca.

The price does change depending on travel dates, and fares can be found using ITA Matrix. I am going to be providing all the prices in this article while keeping the best one at the end…

Availability: September to December 2020

For the travel between September and December 2020, you can find this fare widely available at a price of INR 99,762 (USD 1,313).

Availability: January to March 2021

Between January and March 2021, this fare can be booked for INR 88,900 (USD 1,170).

Availability: April 2021

As promised, the best fare for this journey is available for travel in April 2021 at a price of INR 83,900 (USD 1,104).

This journey will earn Fly Smiles members a total of 15,534 miles.

Fares are also available at the same price for journeys starting in Chennai and ending at either Kochi or Bengaluru.

There are similar itineraries from Bengaluru and Hyderabad at a price difference of around INR 2,000 (USD 26) and INR 6,000 (USD 79), however the catch here is that you may have long layovers in Colombo.

About Morocco

Often overlooked by many, Casablanca gives the new-age travellers what they ultimately desire - the local feel rather than touristy vibes. Another lesser-known fact about Casablanca is that it is a great city for restaurants, and the diversity of the food on offer (from farm-to-table, to luxurious French menus) is mind-blowing.

One thing you wouldn’t want to miss while in Casablanca is an opportunity to take a peak inside the daily lives of the city’s residents by exploring the markets here.

For Indian citizens who are looking to take a trip to Morocco, you will need to arrange a proper visa (in advance, not online) in order to get entry.

Jemaa el-Fnaa Market, Marrakech

The world-famous city of Marrakech is just two and half hours away from Casablanca and there are many options available to get there - a train or a bus are the most convenient and economical ones (ranging between INR 600 and 1200).

Known for its palaces, luxury spas and hammams, and the lively markets, you will at least want to spend a couple of days in this bustling city.

Summing up

This deal is widely open and gets better with time. Many of us are looking forward to next summer for the perfect getaway and this deal would present a perfect opportunity to do so.

For me, the highlight of this deal is the chance to try Gulf Air’s Boeing 787-9 and their 'Falcon Gold'  business class, which they describe as "providing first class luxury at business class fare".

Oneworld members can earn miles on all sectors of this journey, which is sold by SriLankan Airlines.

What do you think about this fare? Are you looking forward to flying Gulf Air’s new business class?
