British Airways Executive Club members have long been able to earn Avios with qualifying hotel stays, though a number of hotel partners seem to have dropped off BA’s list recently.

British Airways ends partnership with Langham and Mandarin Oriental

British Airways had a long-standing partnership with the Langham Hospitality Group, the hospitality arm of a major Hong Kong property development company.

Langham has hotels in Asia, Australia, the US and London, where suites at The Langham in Portland Place apparently cost as much as £24,000 (USD 30,000) per night.

As well as being able to earn 500 Avios per night on Langham hotel stays, BA gold members could automatically be enrolled in the hotel’s loyalty scheme, 1865 (the year the London property opened), at ‘Voyager’ level.

Benefits of Langham’s Voyager status, which would usually require five stays or 15 nights in a calendar year to achieve, include 6pm check out, free internet, a room upgrade (subject to availability), free fruit on arrival and an additional welcome amenity (such as a bottle of wine).

That partnership has now come to an end, as confirmed on the British Airways website:

Similarly, Executive Club members were previously able to earn 800 Avios per night at Mandarin Oriental properties, though this group has also been removed from BA’s list of hotel partners. In the past, BA silver and gold members were eligible to receive a free upgrade to the next room category.

Which hotel brands can I earn Avios with?

It’s been a while since I last checked BA’s accommodation partners - and the list now looks different from how I remember it, with some big names gone (including Radisson, Hilton, Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-La), and some new names appearing.

Executive Club members can currently earn Avios when you book direct with the following hotel brands:

Accor - earn 2.5 Avios for every Euro 2 spent at Sofitel, Pullman, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, MGallery, Grand Mercure, The Sebel, Novotel, Suite Novotel, Mercure. You’ll earn 2.5 Avios for every Euro 4 spent at Ibis or Ibis Styles properties.

Airbnb - earn 3 Avios per £1/€1/$1 spent, and 500 Avios as a welcome bonus if you haven’t stayed with Airbnb before.

Agoda.com - earn a maximum of 10,000 Avios per night on hotel stays booked at agoda.com/britishairways. In reality, only the most expensive rooms will earn that number of Avios - most stays will earn far less.

Avios Hotels - earn 15 Avios for every £1 you spend with Avios Hotels (BA direct). Example:

Best Western Hotels & Resorts - earn 500 Avios per stay (not per night).

Booking.com - Collect 6 Avios for every £1 you spend on booking.com/britishairways. Avios will be credited to your account 6 to 8 weeks after you’ve completed your stay.

Hotels.com - Collect 3 Avios per £1 spent if you also collect Hotels.com Rewards (free nights), or 6 Avios per £1 spend without Hotels.com Rewards. Must book at Hotels.com/britishairways.

Hyatt Hotels and Resorts -  500 Avios per stay at the following hotels: Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva. You must also be a member of the World of Hyatt programme to be able to collect Avios with this hotel group.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) - Earn 2 Avios per $1 spent (globally) at the following hotels: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, EVEN Hotels, Regent Hotels & Resorts, avid hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Holiday Inn, HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Resort, voco, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Hotel Indigo.

Kaligo.com - Collect between 5 and 20 Avios for every £1 you spend. Find your hotel and book at kaligo.com/ba-avios. Your Avios will be awarded to your account 10 days following your stay.

Marriott International - Marriott has a huge number of brands. To check how many Avios you'll earn with each brand, see this page of the British Airways website. You will need to join Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott’s own loyalty programme, and select British Airways Executive Club Avios as your earning preference.

Rocketmiles - Collect between 1,000 and 10,000 Avios per night when booking at  rocketmiles.com/ba-avios. Your Avios will be awarded to your account five days following your stay.

Summing up

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I had a feeling that my BA gold card might unlock some perks at luxury hotel brands, so I decided to revisit the airline’s list of hotel and accommodation partners.

The programme is nowhere near as generous as I thought, and it seems I won’t be getting any perks as a result of my British Airways status, now that British Airways has ended its partnership with Langham and Mandarin Oriental.

At the same time, some of the rates I found at Avios Hotels are reasonable, and I might consider switching some of my bookings to BA’s platform to earn 15 Avios per night.

Did you use your BA gold card to get perks at Langham and Mandarin Oriental properties?
