Each year, Conde Nast Traveler puts together the Hot List – a definitive guide to the best new businesses in the luxury travel sector. For 2020, just one Indian hotel scored a place in the List.
The hotel in question is the five-star Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa in Uttarakhand, a wellness resort set in the fabulous foothills of the Himalayan mountains.
The resort, located an hour’s drive from the town of Rishikesh (known as the spiritual and yoga capital of the world), was also highlighted in the category of Best New Wellness Resorts in the World.
Devraj Singh, general manager of Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, said:
‘To feature in the Cond’e9 Nast Hot List 2020 is a dream come true for us. Rishikesh has always been an attraction for the guests looking for spirituality, yoga, meditation and adventure. We are blessed by the presence of the gracious Ganges that fringes our resort along three sides and the mighty Himalayan Shivalik Mountains on whose foothills we are perched. Not only are we a wellness resort, but we also have ample activities for guests to indulge in.”
Guests at the 79-room hotel can enjoy Himalayan treks, nature walks, village visits, sunrise expeditions, rafting and bird walks, or just taking in the panoramic views of the Ganges with its white sandy beach, and the majestic mountains in the distance.
The hotel’s wellness experience is spread across more than 10,000 square feet and promises to ‘enliven mind, body and soul with ancient wisdom and state-of-the-art equipment’. Thoughtful spaces and nooks are dotted around the resort for those who want to enjoy some quiet moments.
In its Hot List profile of the property, Conde Nast Traveler said:
‘The new Rishikesh property is an architecturally striking cluster of cantilevered pavilions set across a steep hillside; they are made of local materials, adorned with traditional motifs and arranged so that each of the 79 rooms has a view of the jade-green Ganges. The sense of place continues throughout the rest of the hotel’97particularly on the menus of its three restaurants, with regional dishes that will surely be new even to connoisseurs of Indian food. Meanwhile, for sybarites of a different disposition, the spa’97the largest of any of Taj’s much-loved Jiva spas’97will be reason enough to make the trip to the mountains.’
Congratulations to Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa for securing the accolade – and we can’t wait to visit! Rooms are on sale for around INR 27,000 (USD 350) per night.
