Earlier this week, we covered some cheap business class flights to the Middle East and Mediterranean and today we have some more great deals, this time with a oneworld airline.
SriLankan Airlines’ cheap business class fares from India to the Middle East
Today’s deal comes from SriLankan Airlines, a member of the oneworld airline alliance who we’ve personally had a good experience with in the past.
The fares we are focussing on start from just under INR 40,000 (USD 530) for round trip business class from southern India to various destinations in the Middle East. They can be found using ITA Matrix, and you can read more about that in our article on flying in luxury for less.
SriLankan has an all-Airbus fleet of 25 aircraft including 12 A330s for long haul flights as well as 13 A320 and A321s for medium and short-haul flights.
The attractive aspect of most of today’s deals is that you get to fly long-haul A330 business class on all the legs of these journeys. SriLankan offers a solid business class hard product on their A330, accompanied with good food and entertainment system.
For members of the British Airways Executive Club, all of today’s flights earn a total of 360 tier points (more than half way to silver status, which requires 600 tier points) and at least 4,710 avios (roundtrip).
Deal one – Jeddah
The first deal we want to highlight is to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is to and from Chennai, for less than INR 50,000 (USD 662) return:
SriLankan’s A330-300s feature flat-bed business class seats and the flying time of over six hours is good enough for you to be able to have the full experience, and even take a nap while you are at it.
Another thing of value to this deal is the three hours layover in Colombo, allowing you to enjoy the SriLankan Serendib lounge. It may seem smaller when compared to lounges at some of the bigger airports like Doha, London and Singapore, though it still boasts a variety of food options which you would like to try – and you can even get a free foot massage over there, which is a real treat before you fly.
The above mentioned fare is dated for September 1, but given the lockdown situation in India if you wish to not risk having your money stuck with the airline, you can find similar fares all the way till the end of the year and into 2021.
If you wish to originate your journey from a different city, note that there are reasonable fares available, either with a different airline or at a higher price with SriLankan, though none of those fares are as good as the ones we have mentioned here. For example:
While Jeddah remains a secure and dynamic destination where travellers can learn about history that goes back to almost biblical days amidst new-age entertainment and modern attractions, it is also a gateway to Islamic cities Makkah and Madina.
Saudi Arabia has introduced an eVisa for citizens of many countries including UK, USA and China, though Indian travellers will need to apply for a proper visa.
Deal two – Kuwait
The second deal that Guru is covering today is from Cochin to Kuwait, which is priced at INR 45,000 (USD 595) for a return ticket. Once again, you get to fly all segments of the journey on SriLankan’s A330 business class.
While some itineraries you will find have one or more segments on the A320, Guru has carefully picked a deal for its readers which has all segments on the A330.
This deal is available throughout the year and into 2021 as well.
While many may overlook this oasis of desert plains for other tourist destinations in the Middle East, Kuwait is a safe country with plenty to offer its visitors (welcoming people, fantastic food, history and culture).
Visas for U.S. citizens are issued upon arrival at all Kuwaiti ports of entry, whereas travellers of other nationalities will have to go through the full visa application process in advance.
Deal three – Dubai
Guru has kept the sweetest deal until the very end, and here it is. Priced at less than INR 40,000 (USD 530) you get a return ticket to Dubai in SriLankan’s business class originating from Chennai.
It is possible to fly the A330 aircraft on all legs, though there will be a long transfer of around seven hours in Colombo.
Otherwise, the first leg of the journey, which is a very short route with a duration of less than one and half hours, between Chennai and Colombo will be on the A320, which feature recliner-style seats up front.
The rest of the segments are on an A330, which may have flat bed seats in business class.
This deal is available till the end of the year and into the next year.
Also known as the city of gold, Dubai has turned itself into a major tourist destination in the Middle East. Home to the largest indoor theme park and the tallest manmade structure in the world, these are just a few of many awe-inspiring things that Dubai has to offer.
A Dubai visa in the form of ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is required by people who want to travel to Dubai for a short period, though this can be easily obtained online.
There are direct flights from India to Saudi Arabia (like the deals Guru has already covered) but the plus side of this deal is that this is almost INR 10,000 (USD 130) cheaper, with arguably a better hard and soft product.
While Saudia is a dry airline, you can enjoy your drinks with SriLankan at 35,000 ft in the air. Oneworld frequent flyers will be able to collect points as well. Similarly for Kuwait and Dubai, there are other carriers providing the service on that route, but none of them are as cost effective as the deals mentioned above.
SriLankan has the following options in place for the customers whose flights have been cancelled or impacted due to coronavirus restrictions: You can either exchange your air ticket for a travel voucher, or you can have your fees for changing date of travel waived off (though fare differences may apply).
What do you think about these deals? How are you shaping your travel plans according to the lockdown?
